Toy Story themed cake

Oh.my.goodness. I LOVE this cake! My friend Misty ordered it for her son's 4th birthday party. He wanted a Buzz Lightyear cake, but all the shaped cakes I found looked too hard or too dorky. Then I ran across this cake topper, complete with instructions for decorating the cake. LOVE!

But it's a really small cake. That just wouldn't do for a birthday party, so luckily, I had already fallen in love with the Toy Story alien cupcakes on Disney's Family Fun website. I talked my dad into creating a cupcake display tower like one I had found online, and voila! Here is the end result.

Adventures in Caking

So, I've recently decided to amp up my skills in baking and cake decorating. I've been decorating cakes for a few years now for my family, but recently some of my friends have started asking me to do cakes for them, too. I decided if I was going to start making cakes for others, I ought to go get some training. So last month I attended the Wilton Decorating Basics class at my local hobby center.
